The Awakening of Alexis - Part one

A loud knock at the driver’s window shook us apart. Shane quickly screwed the window down and we looked out at a very red faced farmer.

“Are the two of you lost? I could give ya directions- where the pair of you headed?”

Shane gabbled to the man for a few minutes, thanked him, and started up the car and pulled back into the road. I couldn’t look at him. I was still trying to fathom exactly what had happened. As I replayed the kiss in my mind, my hand drifted up to my mouth. I let my fingertips rub over the rough scrub his stubble had left there. Out of the corner of my eye I saw him grin and quickly let my hand drop down into my lap. Never had I imagined that he had ever thought of me as anything more than a pain in the ass like I thought of him, but this was a total shock. Not only did this guy say that he was, well, attracted to me he’d just acted on it too.

We drove in silence to the hotel. Shane swung the car into a reserved bay at the front of the hotel. I grabbed the booking details from my handbag, got out of the car and walked to the boot to get my bag. We both walked into the hotel without saying a word. At the reception I gave our details to the girl behind the desk, we signed the slips, got our key cards and stepped into the lift. Our rooms were next door to each other. Damn wasn’t this gonna be fun? I forgot about it as I opened my suite door- it was incredible. I threw my bag on top of the bed and looked around me. The room had a huge double bed, massive bathroom with a huge tub, a wardrobe, a dresser, table and chairs, a comfy chair and a TV. This was incredible. I couldn’t believe that the company would spring for a place like this. As I looked around I grabbed my bag from the top of the bed and went to open the door of the built in wardrobe and found myself face to face with Shane.

Adjoining rooms. How the hell did we get adjoining rooms? This wasn’t good, especially after what happened in the car. After a call to reception it seemed that we were stuck this way too as there were no other rooms available and the damn door latch was busted.

“So what do we do?” I asked Shane.

“Well Alexis I think I can manage to share a closed door with you, unless you want me to share more,” he muttered as he crossed the small space between us to capture my lips again forcing his mouth against mine and backing me against the wall practically pinning me between his chest and the wall, his lips prying mine apart.

I parted my lips a little trying to break the kiss, but it just gave him the opening he was looking for. As he thrust his tongue into my mouth I caught a moan in the back of my throat. Man this was the hottest kiss that I’d ever experienced but I couldn’t do this. I pulled away from him. Looking up into his dark brown eyes I saw the lust burning in their depth.

“Shane we can’t do this,” I said softly. “I have a husband and this would only affect our working relationship.”

His eyes blazed and he stepped away from me. “Yeah, it’s funny how your husband didn’t come into the equation until now. As for work, any relationship would be better than what we have now.”

With that he turned on his heel and stormed out of the room, slamming the adjoining door behind him.

I stood in the middle of the suite for a few moments before the reality of the situation began to sink in. He was right, our working relationship was screwed now anyway but I didn’t like the dispersions this ass was casting on my marriage. Sure I’ll admit that it wasn’t the greatest but who the hell did he think he was talking to me like that? To make matters worse I knew that I had to stay here to do this course, my career depended on it. Shaking with anger I started to unpack my bag, hanging my clothes up and leaving my wash bag into the bathroom. I glanced at my watch it was 9.30; it had been a long time since we’d left the factory this evening and although I was angry, I was hungry too, but I’d be damned if I was going to ask that arse if he was going for dinner. I’d dine alone first. Unfortunately as I opened the door of my room Shane did exactly the same and we came face to face again. Shit- I guess we both had the same idea.
