| He had declined countless offers from colleagues. "Come and have dinner with us..." And "the kids would love to see you." Watch other families, other happy couples who would try and be sensitive and considerate but really just feel awkward and uncomfortable at his misery? He couldn't face it. No way. There was only one option... sitting alone and dreaming, wishing, no, praying for the same asshole God who took away the greatest person he'd ever met, to bring her back to him. Sinking, to sit down on the decked floor, pulling his chunky jumper around him to fight off the cold Ewen broke. His automatic reaction had always been to restrain his expressions of sadness. More worried about making others uneasy than being true to his own emotions, but finally Ewen let go. If it weren't for William, he'd probably have just thrown himself off the roof some time ago. Looking to the cloudy covered sky, only one star was visible, bright and brilliant. Dead ahead. "Please... I'm so sick of being alone. I miss you Millie. I don't want to be alone any more". Ewen had always tried to resist talking to himself, but he wasn't talking to anyone... just the universe. Fuck. I'm really losing it! Wishing on stars. Might as well write to Santa! Ok Santa... My Christmas wish... give me back my wife.Or a new wife... Shit. Even just a screw would be good. Trying to laugh himself out of his mood had little effect tonight, miserable and desperate, the wine began to take its hold eventually drawing him in to a light sleep. Hours passed and the night drew colder and colder. Ewen was too inebriated to really realise, but at some point in the night someone woke him up. Drunk and drowsy, he saw the blurred silhouette of a woman standing over him... "Hey... you ok?" "Millie....?" Seriously spaced out, and confused, Ewen saw what he thought was wife, come to help him. "Errr... Kelly." Even her voice, perhaps distorted by Ewen's loneliness evoked his lost love, "Millie... Millie?" Ewen was totally confused, incoherent. "No, I'm Kelly. Look... I'm sorry." Pulling Ewen's chin up. Feeling his freezing skin even through her gloves "Your door's wide open and it's freezing cold out here. You need to get inside. Here, I'll help you up." Kelly took Ewen's hand and lifted him up. Shakily and slowly he rose to his feet, and instantly felt the freezing cold. The tears on his cheeks had actually frozen. The fire had descended to ashes. He must have looked awful. Standing and letting himself be guided inside, the appearance of his helper slowly became a little clearer, as his eyes adjusted to the half light. Blue eyes, tall, a pretty smile. It was Millie... wasn't it?

| awwww, Greedy ... This was quite real, enticing and a great effort, babe! We are seeing a more contemplative, tender side of you I quite like. Your writing ranks right up there, babe. This was a very good one. |

| Greedy, what a beautifully romantic story! It tugged at my hearstrings. Christmas is my very favorite time of year, as well as being the most romantic, for me, anyhow. Lovely job!
