Steadied By Friendship

When winds are blowing harshly,

And storms rage darkly, all around,

The air, unsettled, clings and bites--

I brace myself against the ground.

I close my eyes to summon strength.

And then they open, facing fact.

The hands of friendship keep me close,

To hold me steady, not react.

My mind grows wiser; storms relent;

The sky is clearer, breaking light.

My footing certain, taking steps,

With friendship there, to clear my sight.
