| The muses comes unbidden Slink into my thoughts and wait impatiently to live in words I resist, and they claw and bite, wound my ego until I’m forced to let them consume me My familiar, the lover of the mind Whose words from long past still fire my flesh Whose retreat ripped my heart Bastard, I heal despite you Best you not come near me – I’d tear you out from your blackness and eat you alive The lovers in the flesh – running hot or cold Pumping, fingering, coursing through me until I shudder in ecstasy Giving me temporary reprieve from the storm of reality The core of my heart, whose touch, above all others, reconnects me Gives me life Whose conversation and presence ground me and build with me A haven from all else – a haven from pleasure and pain – a place of safety The muses come unbidden, and I give them their due. Now perhaps, they’ll feed on another’s mind and give me some reprieve… | ||||||

| Re: They come unbidden I often ask myself: is this ES's best? If it isn't it would be damned close. I'd give my right arm to be able to write as powerfully, beautifully, and profoundly as this. What a woman.
