Come share your God’s heaven with me and you shall find it sooner than you could ever imagine.” John was clearly aroused, there was no denying that, and Mary was astute enough to realise that, she suggested he should examine his conscience, be honest with himself, that he could still serve his God, and her too! For that is what you desire, you are denied it with Jane, but not with me, I am open to welcome you, John, so when your mass is done, remember me, take time out to consider please and I shall be here, in Bradgate, waiting … Of course he resisted Mary’s advances which continued over the next few days, trying to resist her suggestions to share her heaven, saying that if God was so kind and understanding he would be all in favour of their joyful union - unless he, God - was jealous of that heaven she could share with John, that somehow he felt he was being denied, “could that be, John?” she flared, “surely not. You need to come out of yourself, share the deep passion hidden inside, the passion I know you have for Lady Jane.” But he simply acknowledged her in saying he was in his Lord’s hands, he who understood such things. But the Lady Sidney was like her father, determined, she’d seen the spark in the expression of the man of cloth, time was on her side, Lady Frances, Jane’s mother was grateful for Mary Sidney’s time in preparing her daughter for adulthood, and maybe even the Queen of England if Northumberland’s plan went unhindered, but that was another story, to do with politics , the death of the King Henry and his son, Edward. Besides her motive for gaining the favour of Jane’s virtuous tutor , Lady Sidney harboured other reasons which would eventually be exposed, if she got her way. She’d spoken carefully with Jane, having reached puberty regarding her feelings for the opposite sex and, according to Tudor values, that a woman be ready for marriage when she reached puberty. Jane had been a late starter, but Mary discovered the girl had strict morals and would not be inclined to stray into the arms of perspective mate.

|  Re: John Aylmer's Dilemma Wow! This was a wonderful telling of a possible offshoot of an historically powerful event! It was all told in a grand style as well and reminded me of a sort of inversion of two characters in Bocaccio's "Decameron" where a priest insist that a nun allow him to put his devil back into her hell! Wonderfully written. One fact was not lost on the author here either: the power of a determined sexually capable woman!
