| She seemed to be just his type, petite and curvy, and out to catch the moment.* Her covered silhouette formed sensuous hills in the white cotton sheets.** The feminine features of her face spoke of gentle mysteries yet to discover.* He hoped and prayed she would one day return to her former self.* He wished he’d be able to get to know her better, take her places, and show her a good time.* She deserved better than this.* He sat by her side, stroking her hand awhile.* When he got up to leave, he looked over toward his sleeping beauty, and then he spoke. “Kaitlin, my name is Marcus.* I don’t know if you can hear me, but I will come to see you each day.* I need you to fight to wake up, and I’ll be here when you do.” ****** ******** -------------------------------------------------------------- Many days passed, and true to his word, Marcus visited every day.* He took time to sit with Kaitlin, talk to her, and stroke her hands and arms.* He learned her therapy routine and helped to move her limbs, as prescribed.* He spent hours telling her all about himself, in a warm and soothing voice, hoping to get some response.* But nothing changed. And then, one evening, as he bent over to place a gentle kiss upon her forehead, her upturned nose twitched and her sleepy eyes opened. “Kaitlin, can you hear me?”* Marcus practically begged in his excitement.* “I’ll go tell the nurse.” He ran to the nursing station and told them to page the doctor.* Then he returned to Kaitlin’s bedside as fast as he could.* Holding her hand in his to keep from losing her again, he spoke to her softly, reintroducing himself to this wonderful girl with the sparkling blue eyes. ******** ******** -------------------------------------------------------------------- The first impressions that I had were of a bright blurriness.* There was a hand holding mine, and I felt somehow connected to the strange man with the melodic voice.* He said his name was Marcus – such an interesting name – yet I wasn’t sure where I was, or why.* He was at once, both new and familiar, and I felt comfortable and relaxed knowing he was there. Next there was a flurry of excitement all about me, as nurses and doctors came to check me out, and ask me questions.* My mouth felt dry, so I asked for a drink.* The nurse gave a Styrofoam cup to Marcus and he carefully placed a chip of ice into my mouth.* His fingers grazed my lower lip as they exited my mouth, and a strange arousal seeped through my body.* I gazed up at him as he did this, catching a hint of concern in his eyes, so I gave him my best reassuring smile.* He smiled back at me lovingly, causing butterflies to play in my stomach.* As I slowly came back into my own realizations, I learned all the details about the hit and run driver.* I heard about how he had, fortunately for me, only grazed my leg as he sped by, knocking me down.* They described how they had mended my broken leg and how I had been in a coma up until now.* And then there was Marcus, the EMT who originally brought me into the hospital from the roadway.* He had sat by my bedside each day, keeping me company, waiting for me to awaken, waiting for me to grow strong.

| Well done peppercorn, I liked this romance story a lot. I liked the pacing and the tenderness of the expressions you captured in your scenes. I especially liked this line: My anxious fingers glided down his neck and found the buttons of his collar.* I pushed each button through its little doorway, opening worlds I had yet to explore. The shadow of things yet to come. Nice ending to it all as well peppercorn. Keep up the good work.
