As you described, Ravenquill, your partner doesn't seem to get much from nipple play until the time near orgasm. The play you describe is of a firmer type, also. I have spoken to many women, especially those with larger breasts, and many of them find a decreased sensitivity that they think may be associated with size.
My breasts are extremely sensitive, and I enjoy a very light touch on them. I have such an intense reaction to the barest of stimuli that I can orgasm from my breasts alone. I love it when my partner spends lots of time gently rubbing, tickling, licking or sucking on my nipples. I enjoy firmer play as I become more aroused. Since this was no different when my breasts were of smaller size, I don't believe that having large ones, as I do now, decreases sensitivity one bit.
Many men say they enjoy it when women play with their nipples. My husband is definitely in Ravenquill's camp, as he does not. It does absolutely nothing for him.
I find it strange, when biologically you would think our nerve endings are in the same places, that our experiences should be so very different.
