| I should have seen it coming. We all should have. My brother Mike had grown weaker and weaker by the month. Soon, he was a shell of his former self, weighing little more than 110 lbs at his best. It was all I could do to keep myself from breaking down and keep the spirits of his wife and son high. Now, everything seemed to have moved so fast yet I remember feeling that time was agonizingly inching by to remind us of Mike’s Leukemia. In early spring of 2007, Mike was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. It had advanced far beyond the treatment point and we knew that Mike was going to die. It was only a matter of time so we set about making the last 3 months of his life comfortable. Autumn rolled around and still Mike was with us. He had gained some weight back and was feeling healthier. We all dared to hope that everything would be fine, that he was going to live. His doctor even told us that cancer had remised some. We waited and hoped, prayed and begged for Mike to stay with us. Then it happened, suddenly and without warning. One minute Mike and I were talking about his son’s upcoming birthday celebration and the next he had collapsed. We rushed him to the hospital but he was already gone, having died of acute organ failure. In October of 2007, we lay my brother to rest in the old cemetery outside of town. It was the hardest time of my life, harder still for the widow and son he had left behind. Since then, I have kept my promise I made my brother. I have looked out for and cared for my nephew and sister in law. I always will… Snow had already coated the ground outside my sister in law’s log cabin In Northern Colorado. I watched the flakes fall, further coating everything in a sheet of white as I removed my coat. I turned quickly, hearing the thumping of small feet heading my way. “Uncle Chris!!!,” exclaimed Sean, my nephew. “Hey there Ninja,” I cried, grabbing his jumping form and giving him a great hug. My nephew Sean was going to be six years old in two weeks. His mother and I planned a large celebration for him, with a décor of his favorite subject: Ninjas. It pained me suddenly, realizing that today was the year anniversary of Mike’s death. I was sad that my brother couldn’t see the wonderful growth of his son. I vowed to be there in his stead. My sister-in-law, Hailey, walked up and kissed me on the cheek and took my coat from me so I could talk with Sean. “I have this really cool idea,” Sean was saying excitedly, “I think we should all take a trip to Japan and get Ninja training from real ninjas.” I laughed, “Go to Japan? That’s pretty far away and it’s pretty short notice.” “I know, I know but I really think we should go, it would be so cool,” Sean’s toothy smile made me laugh; he had lost his first baby teeth just recently. “I’ll tell you what,” I said, setting him down and squatting in front of him, “Next year, on your 7th birthday, I’ll take you and your mom on a trip to Japan, how does that sound.” Sean’s eyes widened and he yelled, “awesome” really loud. Hailey’s jaw dropped and she looked at me somewhat angrily. She mouthed the word “seriously” to me and I responded with a nod. I had for, for awhile now, thought of taking both of them on a trip to Japan, since Sean liked Ninjas and Japanese culture so well. Now, I had committed to it. Sean sobered unexpectedly and looked at me, “Will you keep your promise?” “Of course,” I said, “Why wouldn’t I keep my promise?”

| Illuminatus, it has been clear that I have been a big fan of your work since you first started. This piece could be your best yet and I found it romantic and very erotic at the same time. That is always my favorite combination. The opening with Sean brought tears to my eyes as he ran to his uncle's arms, and I'll bet that if you wanted to follow this up with the next chapter in their lives, there is at least another story in this plot. Yes it is long but people are reading it and liking it. Why not go on? If this "Hailey" woman is a real person, would you mind giving me her phone number? lol Oh yes, the first love scene really blew me away when he set her on the counter and then.....omg, that was so friggin hot!!! Dang you can write mister!
